Having moved from the West Midlands to mid-Wales in 2010, my work now moves between figurative, functional and abstract forms, inspired by the colours, textures and landscapes of Radnorshire. My ceramic practice combines raku, earthenware and stoneware, rooted in traditional methods but open to new influences.
The Welsh hills and valleys, shaped by weather, animals and human endeavour, continue to guide my practice. More recently, time spent in New Mexico, U.S.A., with its cottonwood trees, vast skies and the culture of the Pueblo people, has brought fresh perspectives. The warm colours of the desert and the fiery tones of forest fires, driven by climate change, have also found their way into my work.
Alongside landscape pieces, I create work that responds to wider social and political themes. These explore the walls, both physical and metaphorical, that divide people across the globe, often incorporating the faces of those who perpetuate such divisions. My aim is to reflect both the beauty of place and the challenges of our shared human experience.
